Because We Were Slaves A new Chai Mitzvah cohort is forming and will meet monthly for 6 months beginning in January, 2026. Chai Mitzvah is an internationally recognized and individualized approach to deepening your own engagement with Jewish life. This new curriculum, Because We Were Slaves: The Jewish Struggle for Justice in Making America Home, alludes to the daily Jewish commandment to remember that we were slaves in Egypt and therefore should never turn a blind eye to injustice. Chai Mitzvah provides monthly learning and an opportunity to bond with a cohort of peers.
