Elul is a month of soulful preparations for the High Holidays –
this year, our Elul programming will focus on fashion and sustainability!
THURSDAY, AUGUST 17
Bites and Books (IP)
Our holiday season begins with the first session of our annual Bites and Books series.
Rabbi Brudney will lead a stimulating book conversation on “Fashionopolis: Why What We Wear Matters” by Dana Thomas.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 24
Facebook Live with Olivia Newman (V)
Join Rabbi Brudney on Facebook Live for an interview and tour featuring local fashion designer and Jewish business owner Olivia Newman. After our conversation Ms. Newman will walk us through her home workshop where she creates for Polly Lava, her virtual store, selling uniquely upcycled, reworked, and thrifted vintage clothes. Tune in and one lucky winner will receive a $50 gift card to Polly Lava!
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9
Light Refreshments (Tent) (IP)
Selichot: Syncing Inner Intentions and Outer Appearances (Tent) (IP)
Selichot Service (Tent) (IP/V)
Selichot is the final event of Elul before our High Holidays begin – one last chance for reflection and engagement before the new year begins! Join us for an interactive workshop led by Rachael Renae, local business owner and self-proclaimed “enthusiastic style gal.” Rachael is an expert at helping people of all genders hone in on how clothing can help them be their best selves. Her presentation and guidance will help us ensure that our outer appearances promote inner growth and positive action as we enter 5784.
The evening will begin with light refreshments, followed by the workshop. Our brief and meaningful Selichot service will begin at 8:00 pm – and you can look forward to beautiful music, thoughtful prayers, and the symbolic changing of our Torah mantles from year-round covers to High Holiday white!
