2011 Rosenbush Award  

 

LARRY WARREN HONORED WITH THE ROSENBUSH AWARD

Brotherhood Installation, June 10, was also the occasion for the 35th anniversary presentation of the prestigious Robert L. Rosenbush Award. First given in 1976, the award honors Bob Rosenbush’s commitment to Brotherhood. Brotherhood President in 1975, when he died unexpectedly, Bob set the bar for devotion, loyalty and service. In his memory, the award is given to an individual who most personifies the values he held dear- Torah (study), worship (avodah), and acts of loving kindness (gimilut hasodim).

This year’s recipient, Larry Warren, has a long history of Temple, Brotherhood, and community commitment. Larry married Janis Baker in 1968; they joined Temple approximately 40 years ago continuing a three generation connection. The two were married for 39 years before she died of ovarian cancer. Their family includes children Michael, Jeffery, and Stephanie and son-in-law Daniel Harold, and grandchildren Jack and Ryan. Following Janis’ passing, the Warren family created a fundraiser that contributed $54,000 to the Karmanos Cancer Institute for Ovarian cancers research.

Larry joined Brotherhood 35 years ago A life member, he served as Treasurer through the terms of three Brotherhood presidents. Larry was a charter member of the Brotherhood cuisine committee 30 years ago; the committee now oversees the Sunday morning breakfasts. Larry participates in the blood drive, has packed countless Chanukah and Passover boxes, organized two golf outings, one with the City of Hope, and most recently brought new style to the annual Installation dinner.

Larry is an Architect and Registered Professional Engineer practicing in Michigan and Ontario. His firm, L. D Warren Architect and Engineer has been in business since 1971, providing services for universities, municipalities, banks and developers.

Previous Rosenbush recipients include Douglas Shubot, Mel Wilner, Douglas Bloom, Robert Canvasser, Paul Dizik, Flora Winton, Dennis Frank, Burt Fogelman, Herb Kaufman, Tom Jablonski, Earl Remer, Rabbi Julian Cook, John Kamins, Buddy Siegel, Lee Turner, Arnold Garvin, David Brockman, Chuck Zamek, Renee Jablonski, Marshall Hersh, Mark Cooperman, Dana Gulick, and Jerry Cole; and of blessed memory: Ray Abrams, Stanley Clamage, Aid Kushner, Al Lindenbaum, Rabbi Richard C. Hertz, Jason Tickton, Richard Strichartz, Jerome Ash, Izzy Malin, Marvin Novick, Chuck Mayer and Clem Weitzman.
