Nursery School

When our parents and children walk into our Nursery School, the warmth and love that only a quality nursery school family can provide is immediate. Our play-based setting helps our children to feel good about themselves and about learning. We are devoted to ensuring our children and their families a safe, nurturing, relaxed, warm, and loving place where our children can grow and thrive.

At TBE Nursery School, Jewish values and traditions are incorporated into our everyday nursery school life. Through stories and songs, art and cooking, as well as interaction with our clergy, the sights, sounds, and tastes of he Jewish holidays become a part of each of our children. In addition to finding creative, captivating ways to celebrate the holidays, we also make Shabbat a special time for our nursery school classes. We sing blessings, taste challah and grape juice, and sing Shabbat songs. This is a wonderful and memorable weekly experience our children truly love.

At TBE Nursery School, our children’s families are involved. We welcome families to many
special activities including:
Shabbat in the Sukkah! / Chanukah Dinner!

Traditions Begin Early

 Raising a Jewish child

 begins at birth.

 We provide programming

 for infants starting

 as early as 6 months

Toddlers need to experience their Jewishness
through their senses.

They taste Jewish foods.

They listen to and dance to Jewish music.

They smell things like latkes frying at Chanukah.

They touch Jewish symbols and learn their significance.

They see Shabbat candles glowing.

Traditions begin early. By 18 months children recognize the sights, sounds, smells and feel of Rosh Hashana, Sukkot, Chanukah, Purim and Passover. A temple is like a second home. Children identify being Jewish with their Temple. Traditions, holidays and symbols help create children who feel they belong and are comfortable with their Jewish identity.

July News!

IT'S OVER ALREADY?
By Marlene Thav, Director of Early Childhood Education

It doesn’t seem possible that Camp Beth El, 2010 will be ending Friday, August 6. This summer, we actually extended our season an additional week and it still flew by. We had another wonderful season of fun. Campers and staff will take a few weeks off to spend time with families, take a vacation, or simply enjoy a change of routine. School resumes Monday, September 13 for the children, but there will be an evening orientation for parents, Sunday, September 12 at 7:00 pm.

I would like to take a moment to thank our camp volunteers: Ilissa Chasnick, Rachel Hollander, Trent Kayne, Tyler Kolchinsky, Arielle Lipman, Kathryn Pelton and Sam Yarsike. We want you to know that your help makes our summer camp even more special. We hope you had as much fun being here as we did having you.

As we gear up for the coming school year, I can’t help but wish summer could last a little longer. The endings, whether of the school year or the camp season, always make me a little sad. Children and campers come and go each year and every child leaves with some happy memories. Each year, the children keep a journal of pictures, mementos, and quotes about what they enjoyed about their Beth El experience. I often think I should start my own journal for special moments and special children, particular successes and even those few disappointments. I always think that I can keep those special times with me in my mind, but I know that as time passes, some of these events, and even some of the memories of the children fade. Summers come and go, but if they don’t stay in my mind forever, I know that this opportunity to be with so many children will always be with me in my heart.

Once again, thank you to our wonderful summer staff and our terrific helpers for making one more summer a fun, loving and memorable one.
